Civil Engine Beta 2 Now Available
We’re thrilled to announce the release of Civil Engine Beta 2, our final beta version leading up to the anticipated public release of Civil Engine on May 15, 2025.
This release represents a significant leap forward, addressing feedback from our dedicated users and introducing several robust new features and improvements.
There are dozens of organizations already using and testing Civil Engine and we are excited to give them new features and tools to enhance their pre-public release Civil Engine experience.
Powerful New Features
The headline addition in Beta 2 is the all-new Area System. Complementing this, we’ve introduced convenient Area Presets for quickly populating spaces with library and dynamic assets, further streamlining your workflow. Also working with the Area system is the ability to place areas using a ‘brush’. This intuitive system enables you to easily create and manage areas using additive and subtractive brushes, making area editing seamless and efficient.
Now any asset can be placed using a Path, Area or Brush using buttons on the thumbnail of the assets. This is a convenient new way to utilize Paths and Areas for all assets without having to rely on the limited Presets.
We’ve also integrated the much-awaited Sequencer, providing powerful tools to sequence animations and visualize your projects in vivid detail. This feature greatly enhances your ability to present and review complex project dynamics. The Sequencer can be found in the bottom left blue ‘Publisher’ button.
Refined and Enhanced User Experience
Civil Engine Beta 2 includes numerous refinements for a smoother, more intuitive experience:
Quick access Create Path/Create Area buttons added directly to asset thumbnails.
Improved visualizer behaviors, with texture skipping issues resolved.
Enhanced copy-and-paste functionality in visualizer data for faster project adjustments.
Refined asset placements now benefit from unique instance IDs and improved randomization.
UI adjustments such as added scroll boxes, clearer naming conventions (Legacy phase name now replaced with “BasicRender”), and updated main menu links ensure clarity and convenience.
Traffic & Intersection Improvements
Traffic simulation and intersection management have seen noteworthy upgrades, enhancing realism and operational precision:
Improved semi-truck stopping distances.
Enhanced intersection UI stability and controls, including new next-phase buttons.
Increased responsiveness in dynamic traffic intersection management.
Dynamic Assets and Customization
We’ve fine-tuned dynamic assets considerably:
Fixed property list value corruptions and integer slider rounding issues.
Improved responsiveness when updating single dynamic templates.
Added duplicate buttons for quick asset template reproduction.
General Performance and Bug Fixes
Numerous behind-the-scenes improvements have been made, including:
Better handling of global traffic states between sessions.
Corrected icon behaviors during asset placement.
Skipping autosaves during explore mode to ensure uninterrupted experiences.
Numerous unannounced bug fixes and stability enhancements to improve overall reliability.
Handy New Hotkeys
Efficiency is key, so we’ve introduced practical new hotkeys to speed up your workflow:
Tab [Shift+Tab]: Quickly cycle through modes and items when editing areas, paths, and placed assets.
Civil Engine Beta 2 brings us one step closer to our full public release. We deeply appreciate the invaluable feedback from our beta users who have helped shape Civil Engine into the powerful visualization tool it is today.
Mark your calendars—Civil Engine officially launches on May 15, 2025. Until then, dive into Beta 2 and experience firsthand the power of simplified, precise, and dynamic 3D civil visualization.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement!
